I have previously taught in a public school, and the role of a teacher there is very much that the parents need to get onboard with what the school is doing. Scripture tells us that the family is where the faith instruction needs to start and that parents are responsible for instructing their children in their faith. As Christian educators we need to respect that authority and support the family with including Biblical teachings in everything we do. It is a different mindset and approach to teach at a Christian school (in respect to the role of the family). I also appreciated Ellen speaking about how we are educating children for eternity. The Lord is using us to point these students to salvation, glorifying God, and teaching them to use their gifts to bring honor to the Lord.

I will be more intentional with my lesson plans to tie everything back to Him and his Glory. I will also be more intentional with my students as my role in helping them become disciples of Christ. I will also talk with administration about upcoming mission trips and my role in helping with that.

One thing I am thinking about already is using how God has created us uniquely and he knows each one of us. To also continue making my classroom a place that students feel and know it is safe to ask questions. To say call them by name, say hi to them in the hallways. Keep my classroom organized and my materials ready to go. To learn how to encourage students to be uplifting to one another and help make my classroom a safe place where everyone knows and feels they can be themself, no judgement, and feel loved and safe.

I have several specific ideas to implement this year which will involve parents. I will also be more intentional about integrating a biblical worldview throughout my day. This is a big challenge for me; I now understand more fully why it is vital.
