I am going to learn how to integrate the Bible into my teaching. One thing I am thinking about already is using how God has created us uniquely and he knows each one of us. To also continue making my classroom a place that students feel and know it is safe to ask questions. To say call them by name, say hi to them in the hallways. Keep my classroom organized and my materials ready to go. To learn how to encourage students to be uplifting to one another and help make my classroom a safe place where everyone knows and feels they can be themself, no judgement, and feel loved and safe.

My eyes have been opened to many things! A couple that stand out to me are the ideas for better connecting and partnering with parents. I have several specific ideas to implement this year which will involve parents. I will also be more intentional about integrating a biblical worldview throughout my day. This is a big challenge for me; I now understand more fully why it is vital.

After teaching in Christian education for years and feeling like I did Biblical integration well, I am challenged to be more intentional with my lesson planning and writing specific Biblical integration learning objectives into my lessons and posting them in my room so we can integtrate those into all content areas.

This course has further cemented the fact that teaching makes not only life long differences for students but also eternal differences for them, as well as highlighting the fact that Christian educators have serious but joyful responsibilities to make sure our students leave our classroom firmly grounded in the truth that will equip them to face the sinful world on their own as well as to stand firm in biblical teachings when changing times is like sinking sand. Many of the lessons encouraged and convicted me to see my responsibilities and tasks as necessary and important, no matter how tired or overwhelmed I am at the time. Recognizing that the activities do make a difference really highlighted these truth for me.

This course’s lectures along with the book, Teaching Redemptively, beautifully taught the vital foundation of God’s inerrant Word in all of education and the importance of understanding we are image bearers. I am excited to approach each of my middle school students with this foundation in my own mind and heart and help them develop an understanding of what it means to be an image-bearer of our Great Creator/Redeemer God.
