This course has reminded me to be even more focused and intentional to fulfill purpose of Christian academic instruction – to help students have a clear understanding of the answers to life’s big questions and to prepare them for success both now and for eternity.

After 40+ years, it’s not so much that I’ve come across things that will change what I do in the classroom. It’s more like nuances of how to navigate student actions, beliefs, the things they say, versus what they really believe – how to help them make sense of a Christian worldview from what they learn in school, compared to what they hear from their parents at home. This is becoming more and more the case as I see our students shifting from truly seeking a Christian education to our school just being a better option for them than public school. And that’s okay; at least we get them here and acquaint them with God’s Word.

I learnt the importance of a Christian philosophy worldview when imparting education. I am aware that I will have to rely on the Holy Spirit to teach with this concept in mind, but it will be worth it all when I consider the impact this will have on my students for college, for life and fo4 eternity. I was also impressed by the approach of teaching about characters in stories for Literature course. These characters could be compared with Biblical characters, and the emphasis could be on having students see how God used the characters in the Bible to do remarkable things in spite of their weaknesses.

I have learned several things, but the one which stands out is being thoughtful about including a Biblical worldview in a secular curriculum.

I’ve learned the importance of preparation, structure, and conviction when presenting to the students we are preparing for this world. Students read and study our lifestyle more than the words we speak or teach. Students are moved by how much we care about them, rather than how much we know. These truths are displayed from the core of our philosophical theory and methodology embedded in our Biblical belief system.
