I learned that it is good for me to be more personal with my students and share things about my own spiritual life. As an ESL teacher, I speak about God, but I do not integrate the Bible into my lessons. I want to be more intentional about doing that.

One of the things that I learned in this course that will change my approach in the classroom is to go over my scope and sequence as a new 3rd grade teacher and make sure that it is biblically integrated at every turn. I hope that this helps develop a biblical foundation for my students as we grow together. I also hope that it helps them develop critical thinking skills that deepens their faith.

One of my goals before entering into the next school year was to really plan out my year and review my scope and sequence and unit plans in detail. I want to go into the next school year with a clear overall perspective of what I’ll be teaching when. Coming out of this course, I am encouraged to go ahead and make sure each unit is aligned with and taught from a Biblical perspective. Sometimes I try to do that part lesson by lesson, but having an overall view of what I’m teaching and how that concept is influenced by our faith will help me feel more prepared in sharing that with my students.

The curriculum I use isn’t Christian but it doesn’t any religious topics. It is simple just about music. I am going to do better about integrating Christianity into the lessons than I already do. I want my classroom to be focused on God the entire lesson.

I will be addressing administration about a comprehensive Biblical scope and sequence for k-6 so that every students graduating from middle school has had solid biblical teaching from every book of the Bible.
I will be viewing my role in the lives of my elementary students from a mentor position. Training them to be ready for attacks on their faith and where to go for answers and help when they need support.
