When non-Christian parents express concerns that their children love our Bible lessons too much, I hold their hands, look into their eyes, and reassure them that I will not try to radically convert their children. But, I’ll continue to be an example of a good human to them.

Someone had encountered attacks, and this was his strategy:
1. He listened calmly and respectfully, then shared his own story and testimony of how God had worked in his life.
2. He also asked gentle questions to understand the other person’s perspective, and then lovingly shared what the Bible says about the issue.

My nephew told my son that we evolved from monkeys. He adamantly replied with, “no, we were created by God.” I was extremely proud. In science class we are studying evolutionary theory vs creationism and giving the students a clear understanding of both theories. We then apply scripture to their daily life theories.

When I have been told, “God does not love us,” I refer them to the scripture and that he has a plan and a purpose for everything in our lives. We may not understand it now, and we may never, but he has a purpose and it is out of his love that he does this.

I usually try and let the other person vent, and then start by sharing how sorry I am that they have had such a bad experience. Most of the time, the venom as us is coming from a place of hurt, and I try to tell them that most of us aren’t the ones who hurt them, and just because there are some bad apples doesn’t mean all Christians are bad. The ones who are strayed, not us.
