I’ve been yelled at that my faith is a myth and a joke. Because I am prepared in Christian apologetics, I was able to defend my faith without getting mad. I was confident in God’s truth and I won the argument.

There are times when you just need to be cordial in a conversation and allow God to do the work in that person’s life, because you would just end up talking until you are blue in the face and get nowhere with that person. Pray for them that their eyes will be opened.

I have found that if they are attacking, they are probably not willing to listen so getting into a battle of words doesn’t usually end well. In that case it is best just to remain thoughtful and humble and not combative. If the person is truly asking about my faith then I find that it is best to tell them about my testimony and how I came to become a believer. I often pray that God would speak through me because the Holy Spirt knows better than I do what the person is feeling and thinking. And that the Spirit would bring to mind the scriptures that I know that apply.

Best responses are the honest and humbling ones. Admitting when you don’t have all the answers but trusting in the answers you do have.

I went to a junior college right out of high school, and this was the first time that I truly experienced an attack on my faith. I was taking a film elective. We had to watch films picked by our professor and analyze different aspects of the film. He put on an independent film and warned us that there would be a nude scene in the grocery store. When that scene came, I put my head down until that scene was over. When the film was over we were having a discussion. The professor said, “Laura, I saw that your head was down during the nude scene. Can you explain to the course why?” I told the course that I was a Christian and did not believe God wanted me to view that scene. Everyone in the course, including the professor, began to laugh at me and attack my beliefs. I ended up dropping the course.
