Share your story of how you came to be where you are in Christian education. Have you shared this story with your students?

I was a stay-at-home mom for many years. I started subbing in a local preschool as an assistant and teaching a small music course. I loved it. I didn’t think it was possible to take the time to go to school to ever become a teacher. But circumstances allowed me to begin homeschooling one of my children for a time. This gave me the time at home again and the passion to push through going back to school becasue I wanted to learn how to teach my son better and in turn prepare myself for a future of teaching! God took a situation that was uncertain and turned it into a preparation time for me.

I actually took over for my fellow teacher when she was out on maternity leave and the Lord opened the door for me to begin teaching alongside her the next year. I have been there for 27 years. I have thought often of how the Lord guided me into that position. It was hard and it came with a lot of growing years, but I am the person I am today because of how the Lord used that opening 27 years ago. I share that part of my story with my students from time to time. However, I usually share with them the individual things the Lord has done in my life these past 27 years as those moments are the ones that have shaped me and molded me. There were a lot of hard moments but the Lord used them for good.

I wanted to be a teacher from a young age, playing teacher when I got home from school. I went to a public school and public university. I taught in public schools for many years, but became a stay-at-home mom when my first child was born. I homeschooled my four children using Christian curriculum and they all attended a Christian university. When my youngest graduated high school, I began tutoring homeschool students in my area. My husband encouraged me to create a Linkedin profile. Only a few days later, the founder of highschoolmathlive.org contacted me about teaching and tutoring online. God opened a door that completely surprised me!

I have been in full-time ministry for the last 30 years. I did not expect to be teaching at a secondary level. While I was finishing my PhD, I filled in for a teacher who had left. I love the students and the opportunity to use my administration skills at the school as an administrator. I love teaching the word of God and mentoring students.

I came to America 13 years ago and met Christ. I never thought I was gonna be teaching the word of God but somehow God made the way for it to happen, now there is nothing I love more than this.
