My world got turned upside down when I was around 30 and I went back to school to change direction. I knew that I could not be with my daughter driving truck and running equipment, so I did a double major in English and History. I thought, I would like to teach university level students because they pay to be there and will listen. I slowly learned from watching my peers that this was not so. I enrolled my daughter in a Christian school and did not understand back then that not all Christian schools were created equally. I substituted for the Grade 1 teacher and also for the janitor and loved it and continued to volunteer there until I began working as a TA and my teacher/mentor had me teach Social Studies to the grade 6/7 course. They are graduating this year and know my story, as I know theirs. I feel so blessed as to have been an Independent School subject restricted teacher and been a positive part of my student’s journey’s at school and in life. There are no more priceless articles.

I applied for one position(that is not in my degree), didn’t get it, the principal gave my resume to another principal. The new principal had an interview with me. That very day I get a call from the original principal and a new position opened up and I accepted it. Yes my students know this.

Once upon a time, I said I would never teach in a “formal” classroom setting. But I loved pouring into students in different ministries, and God worked many different circumstances and people to bring me to my school about 7 years ago now. Several of my courses have heard different parts of this story.

God brought me into Christian education in fits and starts, but recently has confirmed a new role emerging- one involving leadership in my Christian school. I look forward to seeing what God will do, as His timing is perfect and I know He goes before me.

My children had attended the school since kindergarten. As they got older, I started to substitute teach and really enjoyed being involved in the school. As my oldest graduated and was ready to head to college , I needed a job that paid more than part time subbing. I prayed about it and asked the Lord to provide a means for us to afford helping our son with his tuition. I felt prompted to email the school one day and see if they were hiring. The principal emailed me right back and said they were looking for a math teacher and asked if I was interested. I said yes and went for an interview. When I got there she said would you be okay teaching science instead of math. My degree is in Biology so I gladly agreed and I was hired on the spot.
