I have not shared this story with my students. However, I have been in public education for nearly 20 years. I have seen it go downhill drastically and have noticed the effect it’s had on my own children. What I’ve noticed is that I want to be in a place that has a biblical worldview so we can be encouraged together in order to be equipped for the challenges this world throws at us. I want my own children to be equipped and not always inundated with worldly ways. I want them to see the benefit of a biblical foundation and education and to be prepared for the fiery darts of the enemy.

Christian education started when I was in Sunday School. In 9th grade our Pastor Jim let us be Sunday school teachers one at a time. We had to prepare for the course. Pick a bible verse, write a prayer and prepare a activity. It sure was fun. Psalm 100:1 that was the verse. We got to use bells, tambourine and the teacher played the piano. It was a lot of fun. I know having children I have taught them singing to the songs and praying with them growing up going to church all the time. You think when they are grown up, they would take their children to church. My son Josh and his wife take their children to church. My daughter Jen lived with me 12 years and I took her children to church and also taught them about Jesus, read stories to them. But they moved away, and the children didn’t go to church no more. Except my granddaughter. When she would visit, she would go to church with me. Now I am a prayer leader I talk with people. Pray with them and for them. I keep in touch with them by e-mail or Facebook. Some have my phone number so if they need someone to talk to. I am here for them. I used to help out with arts and crafts in the Childrens ministry.

I wasn’t even thinking of going back to teaching, but was approached and offered a job by a christian school that some of my kids were attending. My oldest had prayed about, and decided God was calling him to public school. The school that offered me a job would not allow me to teach there unless all my children attended there as well. I couldn’t accept the job, but had gotten into the mind set of going back to teaching. I reached out to another christian school and they had an opening.

I was raised in Christian education and public education. I knew how close I was to my private school teachers as opposed to the public school teachers and I wanted to create those same bonds as a teacher. My faith is the biggest part of my life and to be able to share that in my profession is the best situation for me.

I had a strong calling into Christian education my second year of college. In many ways I feel like Forest Gump, mostly unqualified and surprised where God has put me. In looking back I see so many seeming random experiences that flow together now in a way that points to God’s providence. I can truly say that where I now find myself was a clear part of God’s plan.
