I was born in a Christian home and from a community where Christian education is mostly practiced. Most schools around practice Christian education. Although I work in a school where there are children from different religion and have worked here for 18 years. I would say that I love working in this school because of the work of ministry that is being done here. Teaching students the Truth and having to see non-Christians surrender their lives to Christ is amazing.

I have shared my story with a few colleagues but not my kindergartners. I was drawn to early years education and went through a second graduate program in the early years field. I had the blessing of completing my M.Ed at Dordt University and met a lot of wonderful Christian professors. I experienced teaching and learning in a new way and this gracious experience formed the bedrock of my calling as an early years educator.

I recall the challenging times I faced in 2017 while pursuing my master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from a Nigerian university. The journey was tough, especially with the financial struggles and disagreements with my parents about my chosen career path. Despite having some small jobs, I was frustrated and felt helpless. To make matters worse, I lost some money to fraudsters.

In desperation, I prayed to God for mercy and help, seeking proof that He had truly called me to this ministry of nurturing kids. Shortly after, a pastor friend casually mentioned that his wife worked at a Christian international school. I expressed interest, and he connected me with his wife, who sent me the school’s details.

Two months later, I received a job offer as an assistant teacher, and I was grateful. By the following academic year, I was promoted to a full teacher role, where I could fully impact students with the ministry God had entrusted me with.

Since then, it has been a privilege to touch lives and bless young ones. Although I haven’t shared this story with my elementary students before, I believe it’s time to do so, to stir up their faith and love for God’s work.

I have not shared my story. I like the idea of doing that for them. I feel like I’ve had a long road before I arrived here. I worked for a non-profit organization for 10 years before leaving to spend time with my kids and have more. During that time period I volunteered a lot at my child’s school and learned I had a love of teaching children. I registered to be a substitute teacher for her school and absolutely loved it. We made our way over the school we are at now – a Christian school. I subbed all last year at this school and just loved the people that worked her and the students. An opportunity came up to be the new Librarian. I wasn’t sure if this was the job for me, but I applied and prayed about it. I asked the Lord if this is what he wants me to do, then put me here, and if not, that is ok. I ended up getting the job and I can already feel my presence here making a difference with the students. I am also getting to go on my very first mission trip with the school. I am so excited to see what He brings my way.

To be honest, I teach at a Catholic School. I grew up Christian and have been and remain a Protestant Christian. Upon becoming a teacher, I worked at it in the public school system because that is where I got my first job. After not being able to handle it anymore, I looked for Christian school jobs, but the only school that would give me a chance is a Catholic School. I am pretty much the only non Catholic that I see daily, but I do have conversations with everyone, and yes, the kids are aware of my story.
