Yes, genuinely relating to others from a space of a heart open to the Spirit’s leading and direction is the only way to move forward toward a better hope. Good technique can answer questions, guide, give advice, help to change behavior, but it can very easily touch only those things above the surface, and definitely does not take into account the story of the soul without the Spirit.

Agree. Dr. Crabb has done a good job explaining why this is true. Techniques just “bless the mess” and are part of the old way of living.

Yes I completely agree because it is not about showing empathy, kindness and trying to fix problems superficially. It involves a supernatural work of the spirit of God with the soulcarer being the vessel used of God to do a deep work in the person needing soulcare. This can only happen through a relationship fostered by the spirit of God which provides the passion to pursue the vision and the wisdom to guide every step.

Techniques only temporay patch things up – they don’t enable the other to come closer to God.

    Often thaopposite –

To make us feel better and they are dependent on us.

Or for them to carry on trying to self manage by imatating these techniques to be more self sufficient- which is without God and a blind hollow dead end.

Relating enables both is share in the inner world including how we relate to each other and with God

Yes, I completely agree! Good technique is never enough. It leaves people with a drive to keep doing what they have learned so that the bad feelings they had before won’t come back. There is never any assurance that “I am really better” because if I miss one technique then I come undone and have to start all over again. Instead, we “enter into” their journeying reality and begin to walk it out with them. Being curious and having vision for them that maybe they cannot even comprehend, but just having someone who has that vision, casts hope into their “dark night” and gives them a sense that maybe there is more, and that more is Jesus in us, working out through us as we heed to his Spirit, it is a beautiful thing.
