SoulCare is not about good technique; it is about genuine relating. Do you agree or disagree? Explain your answer.

Being a good listener and some of these things are not bad but it is when we genuinely relate to someone that we can get beyond the superficial. When we have a good genuine relationship with someone, this is when they are more likely to become honest about what is going on inside of them so that the Holy spirit can then address the story of the soul without the Spirit.

Techniques are only tools to help you in relating and reaching people. If our hearts are not in it then we become the sounding gong of 1 Corinthians 13.

Absolutely. Every person and situation is unique, and no matter how many life experiences we have, we cannot fix or carry the burdens of someone’s life circumstances on our own. We cannot just learn some way to “function” in a conversation with someone, but we need to follow The Spirit. The times when I do this, I find that the answer about what I need to do is different with different people. Sometimes it is just to “be” with them; sometimes, to listen for long periods; sometimes, I have a word of wisdom that did not come from me, because I cannot reword or restate it afterward in the same way that it came out of me. Sometimes I even think “wow, I needed to hear that too”, and I love seeing God work through the Spirit in my life in that way. Truly, when I try to give advice, I come up with things that miss the mark; when I follow the Spirit, He guides us with his knowledge of that person, and just uses us if we are willing!

Good technique informs us, and help is conform to better thoughts and behavior.
Genuine relating is entering the journey reality with the other person, and seeing the story of a soul without the Spirit, and envisioning how the redemptive work of Jesus Christ can transform our whole being to the possibility of an entirely new story, through the ministry of the Spirit.
Aside, Jesus did not leave his disciples with good techniques, He incarnated and showed us what is genuine love, and left us with the command to “love one another.” This is relational, not technique. -
