The book of Proverbs heavily emphasizes wisdom as something to pursue and a virtue to be gained. “Lovers of wisdom” are also often compared to those obedient to God. I believe that there are some who attain wisdom through their life experiences, without a proper theology. However, the true form of wisdom is recognizing God as the Creator and Sustainer of life. This gives the believer a deeper understanding of the root of all wisdom, however being a Christian does not guarantee wisdom.

I agree. We are all created in his likeness. Likeness is an imitation. God pours into us through his Word and we gain knowledge. He guides us with the Holy Spirit and we gain insight into God’s thoughts and understanding of the scriptures. With the Spirit we gain conviction and are transformed into the image of Christ. Also, with the Spirit we gain spiritual gifts to equip us and thus gain understanding of how they work according to God’s purposes and will. All this combined ushers us in to the wisdom of God, which we can only gain as a Believer. Otherwise, Proverbs 1:7 would not state that fools despise wisdom and instruction. Wisdom is of God. To love wisdom you must know God.

I agree to an extent. I don’t doubt a nonbeliever’s capacity to love and pursue wisdom. However, God’s Word differentiates between the wisdom of God and the wisdom of man. I believe a nonbeliever can pursue truth, but ultimately he will not arrive at real truth without a biblical worldview which requires faith. I also believe that a Christian has a greater depth in his love for wisdom because he recognizes God as the ultimate source of all truth. If we are to love God with all our heart, soul, and strength, our pursuit of Godly wisdom should be driven by that same passion.

I agree. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I agree. The fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom.
