This is significant in understanding who God is, and God’s heart and nature. If we don’t realize that this is God’s approach to humanity’s mistakes and neglecting of God’s design and words, then we don’t realize that in our own lives when we neglect God’s design and words. God’s nature and character are the greatest things revealed through the story of the Old Testament.

That shows us the nature of God. Despite our failures, He loves us and pursues us. And certainly we also fail Him. We see His pursuit of His people in the old testament after repeated failure. Yet, God is there with grace and forgiveness toward the repentant. Just as He meets us with grace and forgiveness as we repent of our sin.

God took the time to provide us with these books for us to know His character and do His will on earth. The significance is evident in God’s timeless lessons through the scriptures. Thousands of years later we find ourselves in this same state of rebellion towards Him. If only we would take the time to learn from the trials our ancestors went through, we would be better off today.

So, we can understand that we are all sinners and God is a forgiving God. God teaches us to walk righteously. Then uses judgement, mercy and grace because of His love for His children.

I think that it helps show us our condition and why we need God. We will not want God if we do not know why.
