Its important because it is a parallel to God’s love and grace shown to us through his death.

I think it shows that He loves us no matter what we do. It shows that, just like parents, He loves us but disapproves of the wrong we do. He corrects us and forgives us. He will always care for us, no matter what we say or do.

Because it teaches us about God and His ways. It reveals those areas where we are going wrong and gives us a pattern to correct our wrong ways.

In the Old Testament it shows us time and time again that we have a Loving God that continuously forgives us for our sin. Time and time again we went against our Father and over and over again we were forgiven. God kept trying until He figured out how to bring us to him. In the end he demonstrated to us the life we should lead. He knew that without our Savior we would never live up to his expectation.

It demonstrates God’s heart towards mankind. That He wants a relationship with us and wants to reveal Himself to us. Despite rejection from mankind God demonstrates true love and actively pursues us, to restore a right relationship with Him. Also it shows that God does not force Himself on mankind, but wants us to come to the realization of our need for Him.
