The benefit of knowing this, is so we can place the Bible in its proper perspective and context. The way God originally intended to be understood by His readers. For example, I did not know that Job lived around the same time period as Abraham. When you look at the Old Testament one would think that Job lived much later because of where the Book of Job is placed in the Bible. In addition, the Old Testament helps me to understand the New Testament better by seeing the fulfillment of the promises in the New. Jesus during His ministry quote much of the Old Testament. This let me know that what happen in the “Old” was exactly true. How amazing is that!!

Since the Old Testament is a collection of stories that describe God’s unfailing love and patience for us, knowing how He shapes and provides for His children through these stories and lessons will give us a better understanding of this; then we can be more grateful of this blessing and be better equipped to share the Gospel to other people.
