I think the question that stood out to me the most was contemporary. In my own life and as a teacher, I find the most common types of questions and conversations that are being had with my students have to do with how they can take stories from the Bible and apply them to their lives. How are stories and lessons from long ago permanent to toady?

    1) What is the historical background of the text?
    2) What is the interpretation intended for the first readers?
    3) What question on theology does it pose?
    4) What is the application for us today?

I think all 4 types of questions has its benefit to ask when I study the New Testament. For me, historical background can helps me to understand the who wrote each of these books, under what circumstances, the question of what time, date, or specific audiences facing what unique set of problems. It also enable me to understand what is the culture the original audience was.

The four questions are Historical Background, Interpretation, Theology, and Contemporary Application. What stands out to me most is Interpretation, because it is this that most scholars, and sometimes denominations, argue about. It is also weak interpretation that spawns cults. By learning interpretation, I will be able to arrive at the right principles and lessons from reading the Bible, and therefore not stray from true doctrine.

The four questions that can be asked as one studies each New Testament book are: Historical Background, Interpretation or Exegesis, Theology, and Contemporary Application. Historical background and theology are the two questions that stood out as the most important to my understanding. In order to gain the application of God’s Word one must know the contextual history from when it was written and the teachings of the Christian faith that are being taught in order to understand the complete statement of that Scripture correctly. After those are examined then the exegesis and contemporary application can be used to break down the Scripture further.
