What affect have other religions had on your community?

The only other religions in my community are Catholicism, Jehovah Witness and there are some secret occult covens that don’t let people know who they are for the most part. The Catholics have the same focus as the rest of the Christian community and the Witnesses just witness but they mainly witness at the Post Office.

they effect is that in my community others practice their own religion and that can create friction sometimes in the community.

I live in a very diverse community and religion is the last thing discussed by neighbors. My next-door neighbor is Muslim, and we have never had a discussion about religion.

I live in the deep south and we are very religious here in the Bible belt. Religion is at our core and permeates almost everything in one way or another. However that does not mean that we do not have people of other faiths represented here. I live near a major university that has students from all over the world and thus lots of different belief systems are represented. There is also a sizeable Korean and Hispanic populations in my area as well. Not all of the different nationalities are Christian and some don’t believe at all. There are also non-traditional sects such as the Universal Unitarians who are major players in the local political arena. As a melting pot of sorts we have lots of different types of houses of worship and businesses that cater to specific ethnic and religious groups and languages.

Our communities have always had people who didn’t share our faith, and many have made a positive impact. As people from southeastern Asia who may practice Buddhism, Hinduism and the religions came to America, they brought with them their values of a good education, hard work, and treating others with respect. Another positive affect on our community has been the long lasting influence of the indigenous communities and their respect for creation and the strong belief in the need to care for our land and animals.
Unfortunately there have been negative affects even from the Chrisitan religion by those who practice their faith contrary the belief of the gospel. An example would be how people used the Christian religion to support slavery, and the denigration of other ethnic groups.
