    1. I create authentic experiences for students and explain the “why” behind why we do things. For example, we recently worked on letter-writing strategies in English and were also studying American history/presidential history. I combined the two curricular areas and we wrote letters to the President. We’re planning to mail them soon.

    2. I seek to promote a culture of excellence that values productive struggle as an integral part of the learning experience. I also encourage my students to be excellent in the tasks before them because this is a way they can honor the Lord. This philosophy is part of everything I do as a teacher.

By always encouraging them, and making sure they are engaged.

I always give a little introduction on new lessons following some fun activity before I start. Just to make sure they are engaged and ready to learn. I also always remind them that they are all smart and can do anything that they put their minds to. I do explain that somethings are hard, that everything is not always easy and this is the challenge we are going to face together and feel proud of the success.

Regarding their academics, I try to encourage them to be at their best by constantly reminding them of what a little more effort can achieve.

Beyond academics, I try to know them personally and some have been so safe to open up to me about their struggles. I counsel when I can, and we pray together.
