I have returned to teaching last year after being home with my children. Years ago once a year I would write a note to each family about their student. This was a note of praise and encouragement about something their child did that was positive. The parents were so appreciative for the notes and the students were so proud to receive them. Although I frequently tell students how proud I am of them, and praise them, a note of encouragement means I took the time to write about it. I plan to do that this year as last year I regret that I did not.

I would like to implement a time in our day for prayer requests. This will allow me to further identify the needs of my students and their families. One area in which my students feel loved is I will call each one over privately throughout the day and share an encouraging word or give them a quick little hug. Positive reinforcement and words of affirmation are some examples I implement in my classroom.

One practice that I need to do better on is finding time to provide additional help/tutoring for this w who need it (investing in them). This is really hard for me as the needs seem great and I want to find balance between my work and home life. I also want to do more real life experiences and field trips this coming year.

My students know I care about them and often let me know that. I work hard to be intentionally present in the moment and try to really listen to their needs. I often write positive notes and recently have started sending positive emails to the parents AND the students so the kids can read the positive things I am telling their parents and vice versa.

I am in my classroom most days during lunch for students to come by and ask for help or just to hang out. I also ask for prayer requests or praises everyday at the beginning of course and then I pray for them. It is so wonderful that a few students come everyday to my course for lunch and we have built a deeper relationship. Also some students have individually asked me to pray for them.

I am really looking forward to when my school has completed the curriculum mapping across all of our grade levels so we can seamlessly move students from grade to grade with a more appropriate grade-level understanding of each standard.
I am already appreciative of all the teamwork and cooperative efforts that we put in to build our student’s educational structure and to help each faculty and staff member grow into better educators.
