I would like to learn to be more creative and implement more fun learning activities. I also would like to plan breakfast activities once every few months so we can have a brief social time to be able to bond with the students and get to know them better.

One way in which I hope to show students that I care and that I am committed to them is to offer a safe environment in which they can share and show things about their lives that are important to them. I like to have a student board where students can post pictures, drawing, and event artwork that shows their interests and hobbies. Another way that I can show my students that I care and are committed is by contacting parents when I catch students “doing something right”. I know from experience that taking the time to call home about positive things can greatly impact the relationships with not only my students ,but with their families as well.

I’d like to begin recording their progress both in course and in faith and find ways to reward them for that progress. I feel like they’d feel more appreciated if they knew I recognized their progress in course. I also would want to implement a private prayer box where they could request prayer for things that may be too personal to share with a course. They could receive prayer for their needs without feeling embarrassed by problems (such as health or family financial problems).

One practice I try to do is no matter what type of mood I am in, I try to make them feel heard when they share stories with me (even if they go on forever! haha) I want them to know that I care about them and their lives outside of school, their interests and what they are passionate about.
I would like to also be even more intentional about my care and commitment for them by thinking of something special that I could do with each one of them, whether that means writing them each a letter, or having a one-on-one lunch with them over the year. I can always find ways to show them more care! 🙂 -
I allow students to identify questions of interest, explore them with guided research on their chosen topic, and deliver a course presentation. I support students in identifying appropriate sources for research and clarifying learning and presentation expectations. This causes students to build confidence and take responsibility for their learning as they learn through inquiry.
