I am already trying to actively talk with my students and ask how their days are. I have noticed a need for some basic life skill education though, so I am working on a few lessons I can do to help them. I would love for them to be able to graduate (they are all seniors) with some knowledge of email etiquette, money management, and cooking.

Before breaks and long weekends I go around the room and ask each child if they have special plans for the time off. For the kids that don’t, I tell them how important it is to take time to relax and stay at home. I would also like to start having them journal with prompts that would allow me to gain more insight into their life outside of school.

I like to encourage kids to be involved in extracurriculars. I would like to make more time to go to their games and activities to show my support. I have done this more in my earlier years, and it helped create strong bonds with the students each time.

I would love to provide them with more hands on activities. I would also like to spend more time with them outside of class.

Some practices I would like to implement are zoom office hours and another is providing detailed feedback on assignments for my students.
