I would like to create more opportunities to have real conversations with students.

I try to go to a couple of each sporting events and performances every season. My students know that I don’t really like basketball and some of their other sports, but they love to see me there rooting them on. Every year at the beginning of the year I have students fill out a “get to know you” survey, even students I’ve had for years, that allows me to ask them more and deeper questions each year, and get to know them more deeply and how they grow as people.

Always go out of your way to be seen cheering them on in a sporting event, play, or extracurricular event. When possible, go to an event that is not school related and be a source of encouragement.

I would like to be able to have more one on one time with students. They love to tell me about their weekends and sports and I would love to be able to just sit and interact with them individually.
