I am intentional with students in course engaging in conversations with them asking students if they have questions regarding the content or simply asking them how their week is going.

Although I did this some, I would like to be more consistent with the practice of pulling students aside who have demonstrated negative behaviors to have one on one discussions with them. In doing so, I would express my concerns for them, not just disappointment. I would like to help them set goals to move in the right direction and ask questions to help us discover the reason behind the behaviors.

I would like to implement the practice of asking my students what they are interested in learning about and pursue those interests.

I want to continue to do a daily devotion and prayer time with each of my courses. A couple of things that I would like to implement would be more real world application of English, and I would also like to attend more out of classroom activities that my students are involved in.

I like to put stickers on my students papers when they get an A. It is a silly thing, but the kids love it and really look forward to that sticker and work hard to get one on their paper. I also want to show all the grades that were earned on the test, not with names but just showing people where they are in the course and giving them a place to strive. Children can often be so protected that they don’t know what it is to strive and fail. This is an invaluable lesson that will help them to rely on God and his help in their lives.

I am trying to implement some form of a calendar that captures my student’s extracurricular activities. That way, I can attend when I am available and I can ask them about it afterwards. Also, I like it when my students tell me about their siblings. It helps them open up and share things about themselves. If a student does not have a sibling, they usually have a pet or another close family member (besides mom or dad) that they like sharing with me.
