I think it is extremely important to form connections with students and their families, that is why I do my best to find a common ground and help in any way that I can. Also, if permitted which in a private Christian school this is way more common, I think it is important to attend birthday parties, baptisms, recitals, games, etc. I am also a huge fan of parental involvement.

Attending their games if they are in sports or attending other outside activities (like dance). Always there to help solve problems or help them in class.

I have told students that if they are having a hard time completing a project to let me know and we will discuss how much time they need to complete it. I love the idea of writing notes to students, I’m going to implement that this year.

Following my father’s example, I encourage students to contact me outside of class hours if they have questions. This allows me to work individually with students needing or wanting extra help.

I have often considered writing notes of gratitude to all my students during the course of the school year. I could just hand a note to them as they walk in or out of class, or I could send postcards. One practice I already put in place for my 1st period is weekly prayer requests. We share joys and concerns, then pray as a group.
