I want to have a weekly lunch with the teacher. This will be a great opportunity to spend time with the students and get to know them better.

I want to talk with the students more and get to know them. I also want to model a positive attitude.

I have prayer time with my students. We pray for each other. We talk about the praises that they have and answered prayer requests. I also praise the students who have been working on a concept and they finally understood the concept. I also work one on one with them to see if they are understanding the concepts. I always remind the students who we are honoring with our lives, actions, language, etc.

Praying for and with students regularly is one practice I try to implement regularly. Instead of saying “I will pray about that,” I try to stop in that moment and say a brief prayer with the student. I also try to speak words of life over students, telling them how much I believe in them or how proud I am of them. I try to find opportunities for them to overhear me bragging about them to others.

When students turn in papers or take tests, I always like to write little comments pointing out what they did well or how much they’ve improved. I also like to publicly compliment students when they’ve done something well in front of the class. I remember what it was like for me as a student when a teacher would point out publicly something that I did well and I remember how valued I felt in moments like those.
