I started a bible study with me girls. This helps us connect outside of the classroom through God’s word. For the boys, I go to all their extra cirricular activities. From football games to basketball and baseball games, that way I can talk to them about it the next day.

I would like to implement the practice of expressing gratitude for the Christ I see in them–for all the ways that they prove God true when He said, “Let us make man in our image.” (Genesis 1:26). This is a practice that I would like for them to also foster amongst themselves. It strikes me as a good way to affirm whose they are, who they are called to be, and to counteract the tendency to focus on what is broken in us, others, and the world.

I am always looking for a student that I can engage in a conversation with. I try to learn about that student and once he / she opens up about things that they do or like I try to make it a point to show interest in that thing with them. I will often ask them how they are doing with what ever that thing is. An example may be that they just got a car so I show interest in it. They will often tell me about their experiences with it. Soon we move on to something else and the friendship has taken place. From this point they open up about their life. With this I am given an opportunity to share or encourage some moral or biblical principle without making it obvious that I am looking for these opportunities or that I am seeking to help guide them spiritually. This approach has been very successful so far.

I should pray more regularly for my students. I always encourage them to push through, but I want to emphasize more on how their actions and commitment matters since God will use it for His Kingdom.

The one skill I’d wish to develop would be, boring I know, organizational methods that would smooth out class record keeping. Some students do better at organization than I. It would help them if my lessons were predictable and on point across the grading period. This is so not a Biblically focused paragraph!
