I knew many girls who won titles, and as a retired psychotherapist, I knew that many of them were looking for personal meaning for themselves in a crown. Several years ago, there was a Miss USA who had succeeded in every endeavor she had ever undertaken. She was “at the top of her game,” and one night she jumped out of the eighth story window of her New York apartment. I was devastated because I wished I could have been there to help with whatever led to this suicide. It became clear to me that she had never found joy and meaning in all her successes because none of them filled the void that she felt. Even though she was Miss USA, she was deposed royalty looking in the wrong place for peace. What a tragedy. She was looking for the wrong crown.

Moreover, it appeals better to the common folk than the cosmological, design and moral arguments, because all men can fell intuitively the emptiness of their lives, the accusation of their own consciences, and their quest for meaning in life. The deposed royalty argument explains all these elegantly.
