What are some reasons one should study the Old Testament?

Where everything began , it prepares us to understand New Testament

I think the overarching reason we need to be reading the Old Testament is because the Bible is One Big Story. It is something that we as adults often miss. My wife and I have a 10-month-old girl, and so many children’s Bibles are phenomenal. They relate the OT to the NT so well! It shows so clearly how Jesus is in the OT.

There are many reasons why anyone should study the Old Testament, especially the Believer. The Old Testament gives us a foundation for and history leading up to the New Testament. The entire Bible is built upon it. It also foretells about Jesus, the coming Messiah, and explains why he chose to come. It also provides a foundation for our faith and helps us to truly know God. Without the Old Testament then the New Testament would lack validity and in some cases make very little sense.

The Old Testament gives us the foundation of life itself.
- It tells us about creation
- It shows us a loving God who wants relationship with His creation
- It shows us the rebellion of man and how sin entered into the world
- It shows us God’s redemptive plan through Jesus Christ.

To see who we are really created to be. To see that God always redeems and restores. To see that all of the things Man did to restore fellowship with God, nothing satisfied causing on-again, off-again relationship. To see how God put his Plan of Redemption in place through the words of the prophets.
