One very significant reason would be that the Old Testament is the foundation, as Genesis means beginning, so does the Old Testament. Also, the Old Testament and New Testament complement each other. It’s like you cannot really understand the one without the other.

I study because I feel that the Old Testament gives better insight into the personality of the Heavenly Father and with better insight into His will, expectations, and purpose for mankind I can serve Him better.

The Old Testament is the story of this world before Christ came to earth. It gives us the foundation for our faith in so many ways. And ultimately, the Old Testament continually points us to Jesus.

We should study the OT in order to know who God is, answer the big questions about life, learn how evil came into the world, discover the prophesies of Jesus Christ as Messiah, be inspired for holy living and filled with gratitude and praise. The OT is the foundation for the NT and for our faith. It is the same God and so if we do not study what he did for the first 1,400 years, then we are missing a whole lot about his character.
