Studying the old testament reveals a lot more about who God is, how He created the world to operate, and how we can live for Him. The background knowledge of the old testament gives a new appreciation for all that unfolds in the new testament.

First, because ALL scripture is inspired by God and profitable. To fully understand the New Testament we need to have a firm grasp on the Old Testament. Much is revealed to us about God and His character and why we were created in the Old Testament. Without that understanding our faith is not rooted in depth.

The Old Testament gives us a foundation to the New Testament and how crucial knowing God as a covenant God is to faith in Christ’s new covenant promise. If God was faithful to His covenant promise He made with Abraham, to king David, and to the nation of Israel then it gives us reassurance to His faithfulness to keep His John 3:16 covenant promise that anyone who believes in Him (Jesus) shall not perish but have everlasting life. Furthermore, we can rest assure that we are no longer enemy’s of God rather we become grafted into the family of God as His sons and daughters.
