What are some reasons one should study the Old Testament?

To know God’s Story. To be blown away by His Power and the Truth behind Jesus really being His Son.

My number one reason for studying the Old Testament is because God has preserved it for so long so I could have it in my hands. If He went to all that effort to get it recorded and preserved, He must think it’s of great value for me. And why wouldn’t I want to read what the being who loves me more than anyone in the Universe has given me. Where else would I expect to find truth outside of the One who penned it.

Some of the reasons to study the Old Testament is to see the greatness of God who is very much present in the Old and to have ones faith built up that that same God is ever present today to meet our needs.

Primarily to understand why The Messiah was needed in the first place.

We should study the OT because it provides the foundation for the whole Bible. In foretelling about Jesus Christ, the OT also lays the foundation for faith in Christ. The OT also helps us to know God, whether in factual, personal or practical knowledge. Finally the OT tells us about man, because mankind has not changed basically over the ages.
