What are some reasons one should study the Old Testament?

It tells us about God, it is a foundation to faith, it points and shows us Christ, it gives us a rich and full context and understanding of our faith.

One reasons is to help us better understand the New Testament, and to understand the bible as a whole.

To gain a deeper understanding of the Book as a whole, and in order to understand our own history.

Studying the Old Testament can teach the reader about God (who he is, how he interacts with His people, and what God does or does not do.) Also, the reader can learn from the victories and failures of others, in particular the people of Israel. The reader can learn a background about Jesus (the prophecies of Him, where He may appear in the Old Testament, and what Jesus will do for us on the cross.)

Studying the Old Testament is important for understanding the plan and purpose of God from Creation to the prophesying of the coming Messiah.
Knowing the history of the Jewish people is important to see the context into which Jesus was born.
