To understand the NT, you need to have a working knowledge of the OT.
Prophecies from the OT are fulfilled in the NT. -
It shows us how heaven and earth are full of God’s glory. It shows us how God is both holy and loving, judge and redeemer. It is full of the dramatic interplay between God and His unworthy creatures, and is worthy of study as a work of divine art. Above all, it points to the coming of the Son of God who would perfectly show us the way to God as a human being incarnate on earth, and who would perfectly reconcile God’s holiness and love.

The OT is not only important to understand but necessary for the NT and life it’s self.

The New Testament is incomplete without the Old Testament. It reveals who God is and points us to Christ and our need of salvation.
