What are some techniques you have used, or currently use, to encourage a growth mindset in yourself?

I think about back when I struggled at school, especially English. And now when I look back, my English skills have vastly improved and I am certain now if I took my English courses again I would get better grades. Another technique I use is when I go into something to have an open mind that I can learn something new. This is especially true of the Bible. Many of us have probably heard or read a passage in the Bible many times and so we think we know it very well. However, it has happened very often that I learn something new from the same passage I thought I knew everything about. God continues to reveal new insights as life changes.

I think having a growth mindset is crucial for educators. We are constantly needing to learn and grow and better ourselves for our students. I am constantly engaging in personal and professional development as well as diving deeper into God’s word.

To be honest, I feel like I didn’t start developing the idea of a growth mindset until I had my own kids. Becoming a mother instantly provided me with an anxiety of wanting to know and learn more. I quickly realized how important it was to have a growth mindset so that I could help guide my own kids. As a teacher, I feel like the same is true. It’s important for me to take the time to be in God’s word and also find ways to enhance my knowledge in content areas so that I can live it out and help mentor students through their education and through life.

Growth mindset is very important to me. Some of the techniques I have and will continue to use is writing down revelations I receive when studying God’s word. Everyday when I read scripture, I get a new revelation on how to use God’s word for my benefit each and every day. Growing in God’s word is the best opportunity I have to live a successful life.

I have always taken it upon myself to advance myself in finding on my own professional trainings throughout my career. I am always looking for new and creative ways to advance my thinking and become more creative and open to the new thing that is upcoming. I am always leaving room for new growth and ideas.
