What are some techniques you have used, or currently use, to encourage a growth mindset in yourself?

One thing that I try to do throughout the school year is to make notes on my manual or in my lesson plans on teaching strategies that worked or did not work. That way the following year when I am teaching the same lesson I will be reminded and challenged to structure that particular lesson differently to better suit the learning objectives. The other technique I try to implement as a teacher is to set a goals for myself each year. This past year I felt that my course as a whole was average to below average learners, but I did not feel that I challenged those learners that were high achievers. This coming school year I want to make sure that I have lessons or independent activities to challenge those students who need the extra push or who can achieve at a higher level.

A growth mindset is part of walking with the Lord. I pray that I will be humble and realize I always have more to learn. I value a growth mindset because it allows me to put off the good and go towards God’s best in every sphere of my life, including teaching.

One thing I try to remember is that almost all skills and talents can be improved upon. Whether you have been doing something for years or just a few months, there is always more to learn and get better at. Teaching especially, is a field where students benefit from their teachers constantly challenging themselves to improve.

As a teacher and administrator, I understand that we’re constantly learning. Education changes often whether it’s curriculum or staff, this means we must grow with the changes. During these changes I try to always select professional development that will grow me in my faith, in my encouragement of others, and leading well. I also try to read books that will create growth in me as an educator.
To add to the techniques, I am currently listening to the Bible when driving to work and back home. This helps me to focus and use my time wisely in the car. I also regularly take notes at church as well as meeting with a life group. There are so many techniques that one can use daily to continue growing in all aspects of life.

To set goals. To ask the Lord to show me areas I need growth in my life.
