Making those precepts relevant is both fun and frequently revelatory. There are linguistics, history, math, drama, forensics, philosophy, English from several angles; the Bible is an adventure in the pursuit of truth. For example: History is always about His story-the relationship of God with man whether man accepts the love and truth of Christ or not. Rejection of God by mankind always ends tragically. Translation and pursuit of comprehension clears up controversy and builds investigative skills. Learning about having an educated debate means the kids have to know where to get trustworthy info and that they can trust scripture itself. Every human has an agenda when they open their mouths, and making the Bible relatable, understandable, and interesting as a foundation for my courses should be mine.

We can love people without having to be tolerant to all views on everything. It gives me a new way to communicate this idea to my students and to continue encouraging them to search for truth in the word.

As a Bible teacher, that resonates with me. In my courses, we do not talk ABOUT scripture or things that are “biblical”, we are in the biblical text itself almost every day. And I do my best — over the course of the courses that I teach — to cover as much of the scripture as I can. This lecture has reinvigorated my passion for doing so.
