What are some ways you can help pass on a biblical worldview to your students?

I was very encouraged by what Dr. Black said about spending time outside the classroom with students. That the real influence we have with students is not how I transmit my knowledge of my subject matter but how I invest in their lives. They love to see their teachers at their sports games, theater productions, choir and band concerts. Often the connections I make with students come between courses when I take a moment to ask how they are or how their game went. At my school, we are allowed to take students out to lunch on Wednesdays during a longer lunch time. At first this practice was very foreign to me. But now it is one of my favorite times. I love being able to connect on a personal level with students over a meal. These are the times when I feel most able to pass my biblical worldview to my students.

I tend to deal alot with behaviors. When I am working one on one with a student it allows me to work with them to pray for guidance/clarity.

The best way is through modeling, of course. But I think it’s important to try and pull more current events, life, culture, media, etc. into the classroom. Then to analyze, discuss, debate, and apply a biblical worldview to these things. It needs to be demonstrated in this way.

When students ask my opinion, I can share with them what I think as I am a Christian. It affects the way I treat my students and I seek to do my best to teach them. I can share truth with them and pray God will open their hearts.
