Not only do students memorize scripture, but we discuss scripture and how to apply it to our lives. My Middle School students are aware of things happening around the world and regularly ask to pray for these situations. When we read secular texts, we pause and address each moment in our reading that goes against what we are taught in scriptures, bringing the clarity found in God’s Word. Students are also encouraged to apply the lessons in God’s Word to their personal lives and relationships with peers. “They will know we are Christians because of our love for one another.”

Passing on a biblical worldview to my students means knowing scripture and applying it in my life. Showing my students the truth about Jesus as our savior so they can live their life for God, knowing he has a plan and purpose for each of them. I spend time building relationships with students so they know I care about them.

By reading scripture and applying it to real world examples.

One of the ways I began to understand a real faith walk through life was because I could watch my mentors living out theirs in front of me, especially during difficult times. My students have watched me go through surgeries, cancer removal, and familial upheaval. They see my steadiness and reliance on my Savior for strength and provision of my every need. Using words to praise Him even during hardship, sharing parts of my story that I’m willing to share and they can handle is key to having them actually grow as well, vicariously.

Through the lecture I learned that as an educator I can pass on a biblical worldview to my students beyond the classroom. During fellowship time when we spend qualitative time with the students, it is an opportunity to connect more with them, to listen to them and to share how I see the world through my Biblical lense. I thought that it is important to be opened to forming a good relationship with students and at times the way how they see us react to the world or to things that happen around us can also be a learning experience for them, so it is important that we are soaked in God’s word and truth so that our actions reflect the character of God and are guided by the Holy Spirit.
