What Bible translation do you use and why? Do you use a different translation or paraphrase for devotional reading than you do for Bible study?

For Bible Study I use the New American Standard Bible, for casual reading the New Living Translation. The New American Standard Bible seems to try to accurately translate what the original author actually wrote. I will be using the NASB for this course.

I use the ESV normally as that is the translation used at my church. However, I use the NIV 2011 at work and will use it for this course. I use the NIV 1984 for devotional reading sometimes as that’s the translation I grew up with. I also enjoy reading the work of Robert Alter and David Bentley Hart, although I probably won’t base my study of the Scriptures solely on their translations.

I use the Holman Christian Standard Bible the most for daily reading. I use the New King James when studying. I will use both for this course.

I use the KJV Study Bible because it included an outline of the chapter and give history in addition to other verses relating to the book or verse I am reading or studying nd it is a rread letter addition as well. Iuse the same Bible for my devotion as well as for Bible study. I have the Nw American Standard Interantional Inductive Study Bible that I will be using for this course.
