Been a part of many groups using both specific devotionals and just using the Bible going through one book or several. I have found the best include activities that stretch our relationship with others and ultimately our relationship with the Father, Son and holy Spirit. I have just started with a large group going through a plan of reading the Bible in a year. Always wanted to do that in a specific plan and doing it this year.

I have my Our Daily Bread devotional subscription mailed and emailed to me every morning. I read on my way to work, at work during lunch, and on Sunday after my extended bible study.

I have been trying something new since late summer. I am actually re-writing Scripture. I write 1-2 paragraphs per day, and I write the entire book. I began with some of the shorter epistles and just finished II Timothy. I am going to re-write the book of John next. I have found that be copying the Word, I focus more on it, and it has become an intentional way to read and understand God’s Word.

I wouldn’t get into re writing scripture at all. You can get lots of negative response to this method. To save yourself a lot of headaches scripture 2 Timothy 3:16 says “All scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness. You can also go online to a King James Biblical website and find commentary for every chapter of the bible. COMMENTARIES IN THE BIBLE (kingjamesbibleonline.org)

I’ve used ODB on my phone, but right now prefer just to study God’s Word. I would like to take some deeper Biblical courses in the future.

Reading devotionals, reading and conversing with others, reading and precept studies, reading and cross-referencing, reading and journaling. I prefer the reading and cross referencing. I find that I get more out of the Bible when I study it for myself. I get frustrated with devotionals that have one verse from God and then many paragraphs of the author’s thoughts and opinions on the verse. The Bible tells us what God means if we read it in context and cross-reference it for ourselves. It takes a lot more time and commitment, but I have always been filled with peace, joy, and passion for Him when I take the time to do it.
