Prepare your heart – Read the text – Examine it further – Seek to apply – Submit everything to God

I use an app with a daily reading of scripture that is followed by a mini sermon explaining the scripture and making it applicable.
I would like to add/try praying from my prayer journal while listening to instrumental music.

I like to go through a book of the bible, and read a segment each day. Sometimes it is only a few verses, other times it is the whole chapter. I write down notes that I want to meditate on, search out the Hebrew or Greek work definition if a word catches my attention,. Sometimes I look up commentaries to help, as well as reading from a few different translations if I feel I am not really getting the meaning of the portion I read.

I did Jesus Calling a few years ago and that really helped me learn how to read the scripture like a love letter. I would read it each day and then respond in writing. Now I am using The Bible in One Year by Nicky Gumbel, which has me reading a passage from OT, a passage from NT and a Psalm or Proverb each day. Nicky’s devotional always finds a common theme/lesson/application from all 3 passages. Sometimes I journal after I read and sometimes I listen to worship music while I pray. I would like to try the two suggestions in this lesson after I am done with this one.

Been a part of many groups using both specific devotionals and just using the Bible going through one book or several. I have found the best include activities that stretch our relationship with others and ultimately our relationship with the Father, Son and holy Spirit. I have just started with a large group going through a plan of reading the Bible in a year. Always wanted to do that in a specific plan and doing it this year.
