I have used commentaries as well as bible reading plans that walk you through the bible in a year.

I have found the most effective devotional method for me to be reading the Bible directly. I like to work through a book of the Bible one at a time, so I spend a couple of months in one book of the Bible. While I read, I like to take notes phrasing what I am reading in my own words. I use a study Bible, which is really helpful, and I enjoy using a commentary too, to help with some of the more confusing verses I read.
I enjoy reading books during my lunch to help me understand God better and in the future, I would like to try reading a Proverbs chapter a day during my lunch break.

I pray as soon as I awake from sleep,in the quiet and calm of the morning. I don’t have a particular time to read my Bible and devotionals. I try to pay attention to how my focus is. If strong I study longer. If weak a shorter time period, consistently. In the future I will attend church and have fellowship with others who are followers of Jesus.
