What devotional methods have you used in the past? Which would you like to try in the future?

I have a daily devotional that I try to read and meditate on it every morning around 5:30 am. It is quiet, no distractions, and perfect to “connect” with God.
My wife likes journaling and I may try it soon.

I really enjoy using a journal to take notes on any key verses/ideas that stand out to me in Scripture and writing out my prayers. Something I want to try more of is listening to the Bible audibly while I drive or walk.

I have tried reading devotionals in the morning such as the YouVersion verse of the day. I have tried reading small passages from a Christian book I am reading. I have tried reading a chapter a day. In the future I would like to try setting a time and allowing that time to be efficient.

To be honest, I haven’t really done a lot of devotionals because I have concerns that writers try to take on speaking for God. I do enjoy ODB, which my church provides. I would like to find a good long-term devotional.

I have used a Bible-in-one-year reading plans, daily devotional books, topical studies, and some journaling, however, I tend to start on a method, and let it fall away. I will get behind in the BIOY plans, or I will start a book and turn my attention to another book before I have had a chance to really dive deep into or digest the first. The next method I would like to try is taking my time as I read through books sequentially, but at my own pace and committing to write something each day, even if it is not a thorough journal entry, but rather a quick thought.
