What devotional methods have you used in the past? Which would you like to try in the future?

I am blessed to work in a Christian school, which means devotional materials and ideas are everywhere. My go-to devotion is to work my way through each book of the Bible trying to gain a better understanding of how these lessons can be applied to my everyday life and the lives of my students. I use various devotions and Our Dailly Bread resources, but my favorite book is my Bible!

I read the daily bread and meditate on the scripture, thinking about how I can draw strength from it and how I can apply it to my life.

I use Our Daily Bread as a supplement, but my faithful method is just reading and studying the word of God. I read the scripture in different versions while looking at the Hebrew and Greek meaning of the words to obtain a better understanding.

I pray and listen to His Word while walking. I walk and walk and listen and pray. This works best for me. Over time, this becomes a routine for me in the morning and it helps me to keep my appointment with God.

I have read different devotionals over the years and, as I read, I take notes in those devotionals and in my bible — Our Daily Bread, and In Touch by Dr. Charles Stanley were my faithful companions. Then, I added Voice of the Covenant magazine by Jesse Duplantis Ministries that sometimes have excerpts from one of his books or a mini-teaching on topics. Again, I would annotate the article which often included the full bible verse(s) referenced so I didn’t need my bible open.
Because of the digital age really taking off during COVID where print materials weren’t produced or distributed so much, I find that I’ve stopped holding paper in my mind and, instead, listen to the Our Daily Bread devotionals emailed to me daily rather than make any written notes unless God gives me some major new insight. And, I pick up my paper bible again to read one or two chapters at a time of a particular book of the bible that God leads me to until finished and make that a mini personalized bible study time.
