I wake up early every morning to have quiet time with myself and God. I do this before my kids wake up. I have to really focus at times because the demands of the world will try to pull me away. Some days are better than others. I will also use YouTube to find devotionals from others to help me navigate some of the issues I am having in my life. It is nice to hear that you are not alone in your success and/or problems.
I would like to start writing it down more. I like the idea of noting the date, scripture, and feelings that it made you feel. It will make you realize what you were going through, how you came out of it, and any trends in your life.

Early and my best: quiet time in the mornings, daily, first. Meditation and contemplative prayer in the Psalms (5 chapters × the day of the month), a devotional book for the day of the year, the ODB post of the day/accompanying scripture reading in context, and the OT/NT read through the Bible in a year. Listening. The faith in God to be quiet, still, and listen. Listening in love…

I really enjoy Bible study books that have journaling and places where you are given Scripture and then asked questions about it. This gives me a chance to search God’s Word on my own and then write down what I discover. I also like books that break down specific sections of God’s Word. For example, a Bible study book with a direct focus on the book of James.

I currently read a couple of daily devotionals (Word for Today & ODB) in the morning, followed by the Turning Point devotional and my Bible-in-one-year reading in the evening. When I miss out on my morning devotions on occasion, I try and catch up on all of them in the evening but this can be overwhelming and stressful which it’s not meant to be! I’ve been thinking about changing my approach and after watching this lesson, I plan to cut back and just focus on my BIOY app which I started this year and am really enjoying. I read the passages and supporting commentary for the day, meditate on the scriptures, and finish off with a time of prayer. I find this nourishing and uplifting and will allow me to focus on and really absorb the Word into my heart and mind as I meditate on it throughout the day.
