What devotional methods have you used in the past? Which would you like to try in the future?

I use two methods. I read devotions in the morning followed by prayer or I pray in the morning and read devotions in the evening. After taking this lesson I want to focus on reading first and then prayer so I can commune with God about what I read.

I have tried Bible reading plans and reading along with sermon series. I would like to try prayer journaling and verse mapping.

Firstly, I have tried referring to the SOAP method:
1. Scripture – Reading the Scripture portion
2. Observation – Observing the passage as to what it means
3. Application – Application in my life as to how can I apply it
4. Prayer – reflecting on the passage.
Secondly, I have used devotional materials and mediated on the passage from the book to follow through. If I do this, I feel that I have not read the Bible enough and have felt not progressing well in my devotion time.
Have not been consistent with any method and that is what I would like to discipline myself. I would like to follow the method to focus on following a Bible reading plan by reading a book, using the 3 steps like the SOAP method as I meditate and follow on through by completing the book. I believe that this way it will help me read the Bible completely and mediate on it, although it will take some time. -
Currently I have been reading ODB devotions, as well as another one called Daily Blessings. I also am reading through the Bible in a year. I try to pray regularly. At other times, I have taken a small chunk of scripture and meditated on that. I think I lilke that approach best.

I have used our daily bread, for many years and I am currently using through the word. Both helps to communicate with God in a deeper way that enriches my life and walk with the Lord.
