I like reading Our Daily Bread and also Table Talk that I find both very helpful.

I have used the Daily Bread, Every Day With Jesus, My Utmost For His Highest, or just my own plain reading of Scripture. For the latter, I have in the past used the Navigators method of meditating on a “favorite verse” in the passage I read. I ask myself about the context, the meaning, and say write a few lines about how I want to apply it, or write a prayer about it. Currently, doing devotions with my wife, we just read a chapter or two, and discuss verbally and pray together.

I have tried reading devotional like Our Daily Bread (ODB) or My Utmost for his Highest. I have tried doing a passage from the Bible to read and meditate on it. I felt that each has it’s advantages. Sometimes the stories from ODB is quite appropriate for the day’s need. Sometimes I also got rhema word through reading and meditating on a bible passage.
