What do you think the lecturer means when she says “loving one another is based on truth”? Why is this an important concept to understand?

God is love and his word is “truth”. We live by faith in God’s word(truth) and it tells us to love everyone. When we love other people, we are able to educate/teach/correct/ with grace.

She
means that genuine love must be grounded in the truth of God’s Word. It is not
simply about emotions, tolerance, or avoiding conflict but involves aligning
our actions and attitudes with the doctrines and principles taught in
Scripture. True love seeks the good of others, which sometimes requires
correction, guidance, and standing firm in biblical truth, even when it is
uncomfortable or countercultural. -
I’m interpreting this as my love for a friend must be genuine and without any bais/tolerance veil.

The word of God is truth, so I believe the lecturer means we should love each other according to God’s truth. For instance, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 gives a clear description of what love is. We can’t love outside of God’s word. Man’s idea of love is totally different from God’s. It’s important to understand this concept because it will help us realize that tolerance is far from what God intended as a demonstration of love. Love does not rejoice in evil and it doesn’t keep record of wrongs. This is different from the world’s idea of love according to the examples the lecturer gave.

I believe what she means is that to love others genuinely, one must understand the foundational truth about love and God. God is love, and to love effectively, one must know God.
