What do you think the lecturer means when she says “loving one another is based on truth”? Why is this an important concept to understand?

We love each other while proclaiming truth. We cannot love without truth. God tells us that we can’t lose sight of what is right. We can’t just “be nice” to everyone without correcting kindly to speak truth into other lives.

God is love, and we are all created in His image.

Every person is loved by God, and created in the image of God.

We need to see the value of a human being based upon them being created in the Imago Dei as a child of God. This is because they are created in His likeness. Therefore, to love God is to love people.

“Loving one another is based on truth” means that accepting sins of others is only done by someone that doesn’t love you. Real love is accomplished by truth. If someone is living in sin it is important for you to address it privately to them. As Christians we are trying to get as many to God as possible. That can not be done if we tolerant what is intolerable to God. Loving someone is making sure that they are led towards Christ.
